Girls' Football Pathway Motherwell Football Club Community Trust has launched an exciting new pathway for the girls' game to increase opportunities for every girl to play irrespective of ability level. The pathway has been developed following feedback from parents, observations of the existing pathway and discussions with the SFA at national and regional level. Pre-School Pre-school football activity in our Mini Steelkids Centres is a mixed activity with boys and girls participating together. These Centres currently run in Motherwell on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; Bellshill on Fridays and Lanark on Wednesdays. For further information click on the day and venue. Primary School The girls'-only pathway begins with our grassroots community activity in schools, at festivals and at community projects. Working in partnership with Active Schools and community groups we are delivering a number of girls'-only centres from January 2018. If your school would like to establish a centre, please get in touch [email protected] and we will try to assist. We will run an Under-11s Development Centre at Fir Park for P1-P7 children. The Centre will take place twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, with a focus on skill development and fun. The aim is to establish an interest in and passion for the game and to grow the game at grassroots level. All girls will be involved in small-sided games, this is particularly important for younger girls as they hone their skills. Training will take place on the Astroturf Pitch at Fir Park staffed by suitably qualified SFA coaches. From January 2018 all our coaches are part of a structured coach education and development pathway, ensuring that girls receive high quality coaching. The Under-11 players will play in small tournaments and festivals. We will publish a list of these on our website to ensure that parents and guardians have sufficient notice. In addition there will be small-sided matches at Fir Park to maximise game time for every girl. Secondary School (Recreational) We recognise that many secondary school pupils cannot commit to structured competitive football because of pressure of academic work or other sports, we want to ensure that they have the opportunity to continue to play football and enjoy time on the park. Our new football development centre for S1-S6 girls will provide such an opportunity. This term-time centre will take place once a week. Competitive Teams There will continue to be competitive teams at Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and Development Level with a clear pathway for girls into the Ladies' XI. These affiliated teams will compete in leagues and festivals across central Scotland. Players with potential will have the opportunity to attend Regional Performance Squad Trials in conjunction with the SFA Central Regional structure. If you would like to be part of our new programme, please contact us on 01698 239926 and we will be delighted to accommodate you in the appropriate team or development centre. Motherwell Football Club Community Trust prides itself on offering opportunities for everyone to participate and we look forward to developing and growing the girls' game.
