In 2015 Motherwell Football Club Community Trust receiverd funding from the Climate Challenge Fund for a project to extend carbon literacy across Lanarkshire supporting the aim of a low carbon future and create a legacy of awareness and understanding that will reduce CO2 emissions in the longer term. The project uses the brand name and reach of players/coaches of Motherwell Football Club to promote lower carbon lifestyle choices in Lanarkshire.
The aims of the project are to:
• Reduce the impact and costs of energy, clothing and travel associated with sporting activities
• Raise awareness of carbon emissions and climate change
Currently we have in excess of 600 children attending our community coaching programme at Fir Park Stadium from across Central Scotland mostly travelling to the Stadium independently by car. We are working to reduce this carbon footprint through a car sharing initiative that will be implemented and administered by the Community Trust.Read more
We have developed a ‘Green Walk to School’ scheme where children will walk to local schools on a weekly basis supervised by our community coaches who are trained in road safety procedures to do this safely.Read more
